What I was hoping to see is that you had some RealTek Sound Manager software installed in addition to the device drivers.

If there is a RealTek device under "Sound, video, and game controllers" in Device Manager, then you do have some driver installed.

Also, never use WDM drivers under XP unless there is no choice. Kaz, do not use drivers or audio software from RealTek or Intel unless the ones from HP just don't work. Thanks again everyone for all your suggestions - they are much appreciated. My ICT guy at work came in with black bags under his eyes today and said he's not managed to sleep most of the weekend trying to get to the bottom of it - to no avail. I'm starting to feel like a lost cause :-) I have of course checked that headphones do not work either - and they don't, but I'm curious as to why the Sound Manager has reset itself (again). What I have is:Īlso something eles I've just discovered, is that once again my multi-channel Sound Manager has reset itself (overnight & without any prompting) back to headphones again instead of 2/2.1 sound? Then went back and clicked on 'Other Control Panel Options' and I definitely don't have an actual RealTek icon in there. I wasn't 100% sure if you meant an *actual* icon IN Control Panel or go to 'sounds, speech & audio and check from there?Īnyway, checked the above first - again. If you get audio out of those jacks - even surround or center channel audio - it might suggest that the green jack is bad. You could enable the multichannel sound, then try plugging your speakers into the other jacks, blue and pink, while playing back multi-channel sound, such as a DVD with 5.1 channel sound.

You could try *gently* moving the jack with the plug while some audio is playing. In such a situation, there would be no way for the system or any software diagnostics to discover this. In the worst-case scenario, the speaker jack is broken or the jack assembly has come loose from the motherboard. Is there a RealTek Sound or Audio Manager on your system? I have a RealTek sound chip, too, and the software installed "RealTek HD Audio Manager". Run the DirectSound tests and see if you get anything. Open a run box (Win+R), enter dxdiag, and go to the Sound tab(s). Start with the DirectX diags, which should be installed in your system. Kaz, another thing to try is some diagnostics. Sorry this message is so long but wanted to let you know what I've already tried. Oh and I've also tried to do a system restore (before I installed SP3) but it wouldn't let me.Ĭan anyone think of something that I've not tried yet please to get my sound back? My PC is a HP Pavillion 734.uk, am using Windows XP Home SP3 (although up til yesterday it was SP2 and the problem was there a week ago so I'm sure it's not a SP3 problem) I've also looked at control panel/admin tools/services and made sure windows audio was set to automatic - which it was. I've also uninstalled the realtek driver then rebooted and let XP relocate it, still made no difference. Someone else advised me to disable the Microsoft UAA Bus driver from systems (in devices) but I didn't have that in my systems devices. Have made sure that nothing has been 'disabled' or ticked as 'mute' and now I'm completely out of ideas.

I've run full system spyware, full virus check, registry fix, driver detective and still no sound.

Have checked ALL devices under sound, video and games in devices and all say 'working properly'. Have checked all obvious things in device manager, no exclamation marks etc and says 'device is working properly'. This is fine now & I've got my volume icon back since downloading a new realtek driver but still no sound. I clicked on 'volume' in the control panel/sounds/audio & I got the message 'windows error SndVol32.exe'. I have (or rather, I'm supposed to have) Realtek AC97 onboard soundĪ week ago I lost my sound completely, also the little sound icon disappeared from my taskbar. Hello, am hoping someone might be able to help me please.
